Rufiji River Raft

The Rufiji River Raft is a 2-week expedition on the largest and longest river system in Tanzania. The raft is run almost entirely within the Selous Game Reserve (SGR), which is a world heritage site and one of the largest protected areas in the world. This river expedition is for the adventurer, naturalist and safari lover in you. Fitness and paddle power is an advantage on this expedition as it involves at least 10 full days on the river.

The Kilombero and Rufiji rivers are teeming with crocodile & hippo and they run through some of the most pristine game country. The birdlife along the river system is abundant and the fishing is excellent. Expect to witness some of the best game viewing and scenery from a raft. Revel in the fact that you are the only people on the river.

Tell Me More...

Starting on the western boundary of the Selous Game Reserve at Riverside Camp, the expedition will raft downstream along the Kilombero River until it’s confluence with the Luwegu River at Shuguri Falls. The falls are circled and the raft is resumed again at the bottom of the falls. You continue downstream through Stiegler's Gorge, various channels and lakes until you reach the eastern boundary of the SGR at Rufiji River Camp. This brings the expedition to an end, but there will be lots of campfire stories, cold beers, tasty BBQ and plenty to reflect upon.

Most days will be spent paddling down the river, but there will also be walking excursions, fishing and game trekking activities. There is no human settlement or activity within the Selous Game Reserve and for the entire duration of the expedition, you may only have your safari team to interact with. Your team of safari staff will also keep you busy with safari duties and informed on the operations, sights, sounds and wholesome experience of the expedition.
